Man Facing Murder Charge Takes Plea Deal

A man who was facing murder charges in Clay County has opted for a plea deal.

26-year-old Jon McGuff pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter instead of going to trial, which was scheduled to start last week.

McGuff, of Reelsville, was originally charged with murder in connection to the shooting death of 48-year-old William Matherly.

According to Brazil police, Matherly was fatally shot multiple times last May.

McGuff’s sentencing in Clay County is set for August 21st.

He still faces other felony charges in Putnam County.
