The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is confirming the state’s second positive case of chronic wasting disease, this one involving a 2 ½ year-old male deer in Posey County.
The fatal neurological deer disease has been detected in wild deer in 36 states, including all states bordering Indiana.
There have been no reported cases of CWD infection in humans.
To help biologists develop a targeted response, DNR will enhance its 2025-2026 deer hunting season surveillance in Posey and surrounding counties to determine the disease’s extent.
CWD testing will be voluntary for this area’s hunters.
If you see any sick or dead wildlife, report it at on.IN.gov/sickwildlife.
