The Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association honored Washington Township volunteer firefighter Fletcher Rhoads Thursday by presenting him with an I.V.F.A. Life Saving Award.
Rhoads assisted a neighbor with getting his disabled wife out of their smoke-filled house back in January when their garage caught fire.
The neighbor wrote a letter to the I.V.F.A. requesting Rhoads be recognized for his actions.
He said if it were not for Rhoads, his wife would not be here today because he could not have removed her from the house by himself.
