Hoosiers who get their health insurance through the Healthy Indiana Plan will have to work or volunteer at least 20-hours a week to get their Medicaid coverage under a bill approved by the state Senate.
Governor Mike Braun will need to sign Senate Bill 2 for the requirement to take effect.
Senator Chris Garten of Charlestown says Medicaid is for the poor and disabled and every dollar redirected to someone who is not poor or disabled takes away from the care.
HIP has been in place since former Governor Mitch Daniels was in office.
