The Knox County Sheriff’s Office says scammers may be using the inmate search feature on JailTracker and its Sheriff’s App to contact family members, falsely claiming they can help loved ones get released from jail for a fee.
The Sheriff’s Office says don’t send money or share personal information with anyone who calls you on the phone or sends you an email that you did not initiate.
The office has received several calls from the Indiana Sex and Violent Offender registry participants stating they have had calls threatening arrest if a fee is not paid as well.
The number displayed on most of these calls has been 812-813-8265.
This is a spoofed number.
If you get a call from this number, ignore it and block it.
The sheriff’s office reminds you it will never call you and demand money.
