A bill inviting over two dozen Illinois counties to join Indiana is heading to Governor Mike Braun’s desk.
The Indiana House voted to concur with the Senate version of House Enrolled Act 10-08 on Thursday.
This comes after 33 Illinois counties voted in favor of advisory referendums which would allow them to secede from the state.
If Braun signs the measure into law, more steps would be needed to annex those counties into Indiana and would likely require approval from Illinois lawmakers as well.
