One person is dead after getting hit by the Purdue University mascot train.
The Boilermaker Special is a truck shaped like a 19th-century locomotive and is the official mascot of Purdue University.
On Thursday, the Boilermaker Special was traveling north on U.S. 52 near Lafayette when it apparently blew a tire and hit a southbound car.
The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office says the driver of the southbound car was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies say a 20-year-old Purdue student was driving the Boilermaker Special at the time of the accident.
